Default No more gas caps....

Just saw a news story, about the new innovation in gas caps for cars, not having one....... Ford is going to introduce a "Capless" system on the new Lincoln MKS, and apparently already have it on their Ford GT. I need to do more research on this one, as I'm not sure about the functionality of the system. My Chrysler, needs to keep a pre-set pressure in the tank, or lights start going off. If I leave the cap off, it may cause problems. So, what happens if a seal in this "Capless System" fails, and the pressure changes?

Just wanted to get other views, to see if others have heard about this....

I think you are going to have to explain to me what a gas cap is?

I haven't heard of anything similar over here so don't know if it will affect us or not.

I'm sorry, forget about the "Lingo" difference...

I'm not sure of the correct word, so I will try to get close. It's the cap that covers the "Fuel" or "Petro" tank fill tube, where you insert the nozzle to fill up the tank. OK, if that doesn't muddy things up even more......

I wish they'd put a "cap" on gas prices.

I haven't heard of that, Craztel. There must be some kind of aperture that closes over itself?

I will have to see, if I can find a picture of it somewhere...... The one I remember seeing, it looked like a "Rubber" enclosure that self sealed when the nozzle was taken out....

Yes, I assume that there is a seal but not a screw on plastic cap. After all they aren't going to just get rid of a necessary part?

It always seemed to me that you could make the cap part of the hinged covered rather than seperate.

Thanks Craztel, that's interesting. I wonder if they make a retrofit for an 89 Honda Civic?

Ahh, now I get you, Crazetel.

At first I thought you meant the actual metal cap was going altogether. I just thought that fuel thieves would love the idea!
